Regulatory Update

New and changing emissions laws
are already in effect

Air quality regulations for stationary and off-highway engines are tightening significantly in Australia. If your current engine installation has not been assessed against the current regulatory framework, the time to act is now.

NSW · In Force

NSW Clean Air Regulation 2022

In force since 16 December 2022, this regulation requires older industrial premises (Groups 3 & 4, operating 1979–1997) to meet significantly tighter NOx limits, a reduction of up to 20% by July 2025 (Group 5) and greater than 70% by July 2030 (Group 6). Applications to retain legacy conditions must be lodged at least 12 months before each deadline. SCR is the primary technology pathway operators are adopting.

Victoria · Evolving

Victoria EPA: EP Act 2017 & Air Quality Guidance

Victoria's Environment Protection Act 2017 introduced a General Environmental Duty requiring businesses to manage the risk of harm from their emissions. EPA Victoria's updated air quality guidance (Publication 1961, 2022) sets the assessment framework for all industrial activities involving engine emissions. Operating licences increasingly include tighter, site-specific NOx limits, especially for data centres, hospitals and high-density urban areas.

National · Product Emissions

Australia's Product Emissions Standards

Under Australia's Product Emissions Standards Act 2017, all new non-road engines must meet standards equivalent to US EPA Phase III / Euro Stage V. From July 2021, Euro Stage II engines can no longer be newly supplied. State EPA regulations govern operational NOx limits across the asset's lifetime, often requiring SCR aftertreatment regardless of the engine's original certification tier.

Future · Tier 4

Tier 4 Compliance for Existing Fleets

Tier 4 Final standards require reductions in NOx and PM of approximately 90% relative to pre-Tier 4 engines, increasingly referenced in Australian state EPA regulations. ECI's SCR + DPF + DOC package brings Tier 2 or Tier 3 engines to Tier 4 Final performance through retrofit, without replacing the engine. The MIRA-CUBE™ offers a compact plug-and-play path to Tier 4 Final for 1–4 MW diesel generator sets.

System Components

Everything in one integrated emission reduction system

A typical ECI SCR NOx Abatement system includes all the following, custom-configured and pre-wired.

Scalable Catalyst Rows

High-efficiency NOx reduction catalyst with optional Oxidation or Particulate Catalyst. The reactor housing accommodates additional rows - as future emission targets tighten, your SCR will scale with them.

Closed-Loop CEMS Control

All-in-One CEMS control cabinet regulates urea dosing via PLC using a continuously monitored NOx signal. Live data stored for a minimum of five years, integrating with SCADA via Modbus. Optional 24/7 remote access worldwide.

Broad Temperature & Fuel Range

Compatible with exhaust temperatures 260°C–500°C and fuel types including diesel, gas, biodiesel, HVO, landfill gas and biogas, including contaminated fuels up to 3.5% Sulphur.

Urea Injection System

Dosing and mixing duct, urea metering pump and control, urea storage tank and all accessories. Urea supplied as solution or pellets fully integrated and pre-commissioned. Providing the lowest amonia slip possible.

Easy-Access Door System

Easy-access designed doors for service and maintenance provide unrestricted access to catalyst blocks, reducing servicing time and cost throughout the life of the asset.
